PEMF treatment , or pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, is FDA approved as an effective for pain relief, wound healing, and positive effects of regeneration of musculoskeletal tissues such as cartilage, bone, tendon and ligament.

I have been a huge fan of incorporating PEMF treatment throughout my training, and with Frye, my 9 year-old thoroughbred whose been competing at the 3*** and intermediate level, it’s a critical therapy I use to keep her comfortable . She has some kissing spine and as the competition season increases her fitness, I find regular treatments keep her body loose and comfortable. Not to mention, she loves the treatments! The pucks, or coils, are easy to place on the area you would like to treat with an extra long velcro strap that attaches to the “mini socks” (my word) that hold the coils.

I chose the double pucks for my use. I’ve been consistently using the coils on myself and my horse for the past week.

I have struggled with chronic back and neck pain for years. I combine PT, massages, and NSAIDs to stay comfortable. I am able to attach the coils to the provided strap, position it comfortably on the problem area, and continue to work on my computer comfortably. I usually do a 15-minute session on my back and shoulders.

But, of course I was excited to try the coils on Frye! These were even easier than imagined. The strap is long enough to attach around her barrel or neck, and she doesn’t seem bothered. In fact, during the end of each session she is visibly more relaxed, yawning, and chewing. I usually position them on her neck or back to combat arthritis and stiffness. This weekend, however, when she had a reaction to an Adequan shot and developed a hand-size lump, I was excited to see how PEMF could treat the swelling.
